About Groupe Yellow

Groupe Yellow operates more than 90 footwear stores across Quebec and New Brunswick under its Chaussures Yellow brand, selling for men, women, and children both in store and online to a loyal, multi-generational customer base. As the business scaled, its in-store technology did not keep pace: a legacy point-of-sale system sat at the center of daily operations across every location, with a fixed shutdown date approaching and no straightforward path to the unified, modern retail experience the company wanted to give its customers and staff. One of Quebec's best-known footwear retailers, the company was founded in Montreal in 1916 and has remained family-owned for more than a century, growing from a single shop into a provincial institution with a long-tenured, bilingual team.

Their Challenges

Groupe Yellow ran its 90+ stores on an aging Aptos point-of-sale system that was reaching the end of its life, with a hard contractual shutdown date that left no room to slip. Replacing it was not a simple swap. The legacy platform held years of transaction history and tens of thousands of customer records that had to move without data loss, while everyday retail operations continued across every location.

The complexity went well beyond migration. The team needed role-based employee and corporate discounts with annual caps and a way to capture First Nations tax-exemption evidence with a clean audit trail. As a Quebec business with a French-first culture, every workflow, notification, and training resource had to work in both French and English. An Acumatica ERP rollout was also under way in parallel, run by a separate partner, so the new point of sale had to fit cleanly alongside it rather than add friction.

Missing the shutdown date, or running a flawed migration, would have meant point-of-sale going dark across every store, the loss of years of transaction and customer history, and daily revenue and customer trust on the line. With the date fixed, the question was not whether to move, but how to move 90+ stores onto a modern platform, preserve that data, and keep a hundred-year-old retail operation trading throughout the move.

The Solution

We led Groupe Yellow's move from its legacy Aptos system to Shopify POS as a single, coordinated program rather than a series of disconnected upgrades. Discovery came first: we mapped every in-store workflow, the data that had to survive the move, and the dependencies created by the parallel Acumatica ERP rollout, then sequenced the work around the fixed shutdown date.

Data migration was the foundation. Our team migrated more than 2.3 million historical POS orders into Shopify and cleaned and moved over 75,000 customer records, validating the data through user-acceptance testing before any store went live.

Around the core platform we configured the retail-specific logic the business depended on: role-based employee and corporate discounts with annual caps, and First Nations tax-exemption capture with a clean audit trail. A separate partner ran the parallel Acumatica ERP rollout, so we configured and sequenced the new point of sale to sit cleanly alongside it rather than become another silo.

Because Groupe Yellow is a French-first organization, we delivered the entire rollout bilingually. Staff received French-first standard operating procedures, documentation, and training materials, so teams across every location could adopt the new system with confidence. The result was a POS-first go-live completed ahead of the legacy shutdown date, with all 90+ stores live on Shopify POS by May 2026.
